World Sleep Day (Friday March 15th) will be marked by having Sleep Specialists attending our clinics - 10am-12noon and 1-3pm at each clinic and also CPAP manufacturer representatives all day at each clinic. This month we welcome Adelaide Sleep Specialist Dr Carissa Yap to our Home Sleep Study community. We still have Dr Chia and Dr Mukherjee available, and now we have Dr Yap reporting and seeing our patients as well. Dr Yap is available to see you at her rooms in Kent Town, Brighton and Stirling. Resmed are releasing a new travel machine called the AIR MINI and it is about the size of this pound of butter! No more details are allowed to be released as yet but watch this space. It will be lightweight, quiet and superb as you would expect from market leaders - ResMed!

Philips WANT you to travel with their machine - they have designed a sturdy case with room for a machine, mask and tubing, and in the case is a small power adaptor, suitable for the machine (no humidifier). Leave your large adaptor at home, and travel lightweight and problem free.

All CPAP masks and headgear should be washed weekly. Just as you wash your pillowcases, washing your mask stops oils and germs from building up. We recommend Castile Soap - just a small amount will keep it all clean weekly.

Tubing and humidifier bowls should also be washed weekly, and if you are not using purified water, then add some vinegar and water (1:3) solution to remove calcification.

Do not hang any part of your CPAP in the sun, it will deteriorate quickly.

RemZZZ cloth liners can make your mask fit better and quieter. Just place one on the mask, and then put your face into the mask, and you will be comfortable all night. They have cut outs on both sides so that your CPAP mask is not dislodged during sleep, and you can sleep on either side. CPAPMax Pillows are dual sided, with one side being memory foam, and the other side being a high density foam. The pillows have a removable insert to enable choice of pillow height. Did you know that CPAP was invented in 1980? Colin Sullivan pioneered a machine and mask system that started saving lives from a Sydney Hospital in June 1980. He used a silastic glue every night to keep the mask in place. Before that Tracheotomy was the only treatment for Sleep Apnoea. So before you complain about your CPAP, think about your treatment options before 1980! Colin Sullivan founded ResMed and they have developed masks and machines to treat Sleep Apnoea ever since.
